UACCM awards more than 1,000 degrees

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) held its Commencement Ceremony for the graduating class of 2024-2025 on Saturday. 730 students were awarded approximately 1,074 degrees from the institution.

Of the 730 graduates, 65% are first-generation students, 50% are graduating with a transfer degree to a four-year university, 40% are graduating with a professional or skilled trade, and the other 10% are graduating from a medical professions program, with plans of going straight into the workforce.

99 of the graduates were concurrently enrolled high school students, who graduated both high school and college at the same time. 10 countries, four states and 28 Arkansas counties were represented by the 2024-2025 UACCM graduating class.

“My wish for each of you is to serve and empower others in the same spirit of support UACCM strives to exemplify,” UACCM Chancellor Lisa Willenberg told the graduating class. “As I look out, I see great accomplishments and great hope. My hope is that you carry these noble characteristics with you wherever you go,” she continued.

The student speaker for the ceremony was Keyana Lasker, from Conway.

Lasker took a break from school after graduating from Conway High School in 2016 and after five years returned with UACCM to better her future for herself and her children. She served on the Student Activities Board on campus and was named Student Success Center Student of the Month in April 2024.

“I was nervous and a little apprehensive about going back to school, but when I did, I was met with excitement, encouragement, and tons of opportunities,” Lasker said to her classmates. “I respect each of you and your journey to get here today; it might not be like mine, but I am proud of us for making it. Let us remember the time and hard work it took to get here.”
