Three Faulkner County soccer players were among the competitors in the recent Southern Regional Championship Tournament held in Central Arkansas.

The Arkansas State Soccer Association hosted the 2015 Southern Regional Championships from June 18 through Thursday, June 25, at the Burns Park Soccer Complex in North Little Rock. Due to recent flooding, games were also held in Maumelle and War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

The prestigious event is the second stage of the USYSA National Championship Series, and is comprised of the state champions for each age-group from 11 states – Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. The tournament attracted 208 teams, 4,500 players and 200-plus college coaches. More than 6,000 spectators were expected.

Faulkner County players Amelia Cato of Conway, Jayden Glover of Greenbrier and Chloe French of Mayflower competed as members of the Arkansas Rush U14 Girls Team.

The Rush team defeated the Arkansas United Black Team in double overtime and a penalty kick shootout to win the state championship and compete in the regional tournament.
