Trojans take the Southwest as Arizona State and Grand Canyon await

LITTLE ROCK — As the 2024 season gets underway, the Little Rock Trojans head west, with Arizona State and Grand Canyon set to play host. This weekend will mark Little Rock’s first meeting with either team.

Scouting the Opponent

Arizona State enters the weekend 1-0-1 after beating Wagner 6-0 and tying Northern Arizona 1-1. The Sun Devils posted a 10-7-4 record in the Pac-12 last season. The 2023 Sun Devils lost to Santa Clara 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Grand Canyon currently sits at 1-1, with a loss to Arizona 1-0 and a win over Charleston Southern 3-0. Before hosting the Trojans, GCU will head to Utah for a midweek match. Last year’s GCU squad posted a 14-5-4 record and won the WAC tournament, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Promising Youth

The Trojans have six freshmen on the squad, with many playing valuable minutes in the season opener against Arkansas State. Maria Schuller showed glimpses of her potential, recording her first career shot on goal in 43 minutes of play. Jetney Cook was a key piece off the bench in the Trojans’ back line, providing valuable minutes.Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ at 9 p.m. Central.
