02 Apr 2014 Toad Suck Daze Run set for Saturday
Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the 31st annual Toad Suck Daze 5K/10K Run on Saturday, May 3, at Conway High School West at John McConnell Stadium.
This year’s event will feature a new race course through neighborhoods in Central Conway.
Proceeds from the race will benefit a variety of local non-profits – Boys and Girls Club of Faulkner County, CAPCA-Head Start, City of Hope Outreach, Community Connections, Conway Interfaith Clinic, Kiwanis Service Leadership, Conway Athletics, HAVEN (Help for Abuse Victims in Emergency Need), Junior Auxiliary of Conway and the Miracle League.
Over the years, the race has raised more than $330,000 for local charities.
The event includes a 10K Run (RRCA Grand Prix), 5K Run, 5K Fun Walk and Tadpole Trot.
Last year, more than 1,350 registered to participate in the Toad Suck Daze 5K/10K Run.
There were nearly 300 participants in the Tadpole Trot runs for kids. For the fourth year in a row, Conway Christian School had the largest percentage of participants (based on enrollment) in the Tadpole Trot. The winning school is presented with a traveling trophy and $200 for its physical education department.
Online registration ends at 6 p.m. Friday, May 2. Online and mail registrants can pick up a racing packet, number and timing chip from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, at The Sporty Runner (1016 Van Ronkle St.) in Downtown Conway; or the morning of the race at the field house at John McConnell Stadium.
Chip timing technology will be used in the run. Participants must wear a race chip to get an official time. Participants registering after 7:30 a.m. will not receive a timing chip and will not be timed.
The 10K and 5K events will begin at 8 a.m., with staggered start times.
The Tadpole Trot starts on the Conway High School track about 9:30 a.m. and includes races for children ages 4-12. Kids ages 4 through 8 will run 1/2 lap, kids ages 9-10 will run 1 lap, and ages 11-12 will run 2 laps (one-half mile). The first, second and third place finishers in each Tadpole Trot receive trophies and all other entrants receive a ribbon.
Entry fee for the 10K and 5K events is $25, which includes a technical shirt for those who pre-register (or a cotton T-shirt, if the runner would prefer). The Tadpole Trot costs $5 without a T-shirt or $10 with a cotton T-shirt.
Any additional shirts can be purchased on the day of the race after 8 a.m. at the field house.
Free refreshments will be provided for all entrants.
The Conway Kiwanis Club is the main organizer of the event, which is supported by the Conway Running Club and Conway Convention & Visitors Bureau.
