22 Jan 2025 Three Trojans receive OVC weekly honors after Fayetteville performance
After a meet during which the Little Rock Trojans set 27 new personal bests and two school records, three members of the Indoor Track & Field program have been recognized as Ohio Valley Conference Athletes of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league.
Little Rock continued to raise the bar last weekend with its performance at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville and will take a full head of steam to Champaign, Illinois this weekend for the Fighting Illini Challenge on Jan. 24-25, hosted by the University of Illinois.
Leading the way will be senior Andrew Payton, junior Brooklyn Marcee, and freshman Amarion Pulliaum, who all received OVC honors today. For Payton, it’s his second weekly OVC award in just three weeks. Payton was named Male Track Athlete of the Week, Marcee received the Female Field Athlete of the Week honor, and Pulliaum was chosen as Male Freshman Athlete of the Week as the Trojans took half of the six weekly OVC honors for the sport.
Andrew Payton, Redshirt Senior / Tualatin, Ore.
Payton broke his school record in the men’s mile at Fayetteville, clocking a time of 4:03.84 to beat his previous record of 4:05.04, set last month. He finished sixth in both the mile and the 800 meters. Payton opened the indoor season breaking the Crimson & Gold Invitational event record in the mile and owns the schools’ top three times in the event.
Brooklyn Marcee, Junior / Quitman, Texas
Marcee broke her school record in the pole vault Saturday, clearing 12′ 8″ (3.90 meters) in Fayetteville for a sixth-place finish. The junior from Texas now owns three of the top four marks in school history, breaking the record twice in as many events this season.
Amarion Pulliaum, Freshman / West Memphis, Ark.
Pulliaum set personal bests in both of his events last weekend, finishing ninth in the triple jump and 14th in the 200 meters. He clocked a time of 22.34 seconds in the 200 and recorded a best leap of 46′ 0.5″ in the triple jump (14.03 meters). That jump landed him 10th in the program record book for the event.
