State homeschool tourney to kick off in Conway

by Glenn Crockett

Each year at this time, basketball players and their families from all over the state of Arkansas travel to Conway for the State Homeschool Basketball Tournament.

The event kicks off a series of tournaments over the next four weeks. In two weeks, Little Rock will host a regional tournament for teams in Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri. Two weeks later, the largest basketball tournament in the world, the National Championship, will be in Springfield, Mo. It will include almost 350 teams from Florida, California, Colorado, Texas, Minnesota and virtually every state in between.

Homeschool basketball is growing quickly and is no longer a casual, recreational sport but is highly competitive with many graduates going on to play for Division 1 schools and professionally. One of the most notable homeschool players is Blake Griffin, who played for the Oklahoma Sooners and currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Justin Jackson, currently a starter for the North Carolina Tarheels, also came from the homeschool community and there are many more.

Is the next Blake Griffin or Justin Jackson playing in Conway this weekend?  Come out and see for yourself and enjoy some great basketball. Games will be played in the McGee Center starting Thursday, Feb. 11, thru Saturday, Feb. 13. Tip-off is at noon Feb. 11.
