St. Joseph presents academic awards

Scholarships and academic awards for St. Joseph High School seniors were presented at a banquet held May 13.

The most prestigious of these awards is named in honor of Father Sylvester Dellert. He served St. Joseph Parish and School for 14 years before his death in 1969. The award is given to the senior girl and boy who best exemplify what a student from St. Joseph should be; a person who’s honest and truthful and follows the way of Jesus Christ. That person should also be one of faith and intelligence who has the courage to seek out the truth and follow it. Finally, the recipient should be one who sees God and respects Him in themselves and in others.

Aaron Hoelzeman was presented an award named in memory of Father Sylvester Dellert.

This year’s honorees were Aaron Hoelzeman and Isabella Hartman. Aaron is a son of Scott and Kathy Hoelzeman. Isabella is a daughter of Gregory and Amy Hartman.

Isabella Hartman was given an award named in memory of Father Sylvester Dellert.

Nearly 50 scholarships from various colleges, universities and organizations were awarded to St. Joseph seniors. They’re valued at $630,000.

Caroline Dail, Monica Davanzo, Emma Davis, Erin Frost, Isabella Hartman, Aaron Hoelzeman, Clayton Mathews, Madeline Moix, Holly Rega, Dylan Schrekenhofer and Maddy Shamburger were named honor graduates. Hartman was also chosen as class salutatorian while Dail and Davanzo were selected co-valedictorians.
