Special Friends – Pets – Sarah White and James Mitchell

City: Maumelle.

Job: Sarah is a registered nurse at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). James is a coach and teacher in the Watson Chapel School District.

Pet: Lucy, a 1-year-old Maltese.

Where/when did you meet your pet? Lucy was a Christmas gift from James to Sarah in 2013.

What’s the story behind your pet’s name: Sarah had a Maltese growing up named Angel Louise that lived to be 16 years old. Lucy comes from Louise.

What do you love most about your pet? She has a really big personality. She turns her head when you talk to her like she really knows what you are saying to her. She has a little bit of both of our personalities; she can be so stubborn one minute but the sweetest the next.

What’s your favorite memory with your pet? We have lots of great memories with Lucy. Some include her first snow last February; she wanted to eat all of the snow. Also, this past summer we were at a family member’s house, and she saw James and my brother in the pool. Without hesitation she jumped in the pool and went all the way under the water! She had no idea what had just happened. She looked so confused but seemed to enjoy it for a minute.

What activities do you and your pet enjoy together? Lucy loves car rides, letting you chase her and getting to go to the dog store (where she usually finds toys she can reach and has to have them).

What is the future for you and your pet? Keep enjoying our time with her and hopefully add new members to our family in the future.

Anything else you would like us to know about your special friend? Lucy is so full of life, and we hope to have a backyard for her at some point.
