18 Jul 2016 Solar power workshop to be held
Solar Power Workshop: Part 1 will be presented at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at H & W Dime and Dollar Store, 659 Highway 225, about eight miles east of Greenbrier.
Admission is free and no pre-registration is required.
The event is hosted by the Centerville Community Development Group.
The Sun is so much more than a fireball of heat and light energy in the sky which makes us sweaty and uncomfortable in the summer. Learn how to capture a little of that energy and use it to your advantage during emergencies when the power grid goes down.
The instructor for the workshop is Tyler Roberts from Conway who will share his experience of building and using solar power applications for his job and his hobby. The hands-on workshop is structured to help participants learn how to assemble and hook up the parts of a basic solar kit from a local tool supply store, including solar panels, charge controller and inverter.
Solar Power Workshop: Part 2 is planned Saturday, July 30, and includes a field trip to observe a larger system first hand, how it connects to a house system and how it operates.
Participants are reminded to dress appropriately in case of excessive solar energy on workshop day. Hats, sunscreen, bottles of water, maybe even an umbrella may be needed to make participants more comfortable during the workshop session. Light refreshments will be available.
