03 Oct 2012 Soaring Wings Half Marathon 'sold out'
Regular registration has closed for the 2012 Braswell and Son Soaring Wings Half Marathon and Rock Runners Relay to be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at the McGee Center in Conway.
“We sold out on Sept 17 with 2,000 participants from 24 states,” said organizer Rachel Speer.
The only guaranteed spots available right now are VIP registrants from individuals who agree to become monthly donors to SWR for a year ($20/month or give $240 at once).
The top-notch event includes a scenic course, eight aid stations, a free Family Fun Day for spectators and free training program.
2012 marks the fifth year for the sanctioned race, which includes the Soaring Wings Half Marathon, the Rock Runners Relay and a Soaring Wings Half Virtual Runner option.
All finishers receive a custom finisher’s medal and a race participant T-shirt. Awards will be given to top finishers overall, and by gender in age divided categories.
The race’s “Extra Mile” program gives participants the opportunity to run for a purpose and “go the extra mile” for the children of Soaring Wings Ranch by raising money through sponsorships for their run.
For children who would like to get involved, there is a “Kids Run For Kids” race sponsored by TLC Pediatrics on Friday, Oct. 26, in which children can choose to participate in an age-appropriate fun run or in a half marathon tailor-made for children.
All proceeds benefit Soaring Wings Ranch, a Christian home for children ages 6-17 located in the Holland community. For more information on the ranch, visit swranch.org. For information on the half marathon and related activities, visit swhalf.com.
