The Sunshine school has operated in the town of Searcy since 1964 and is in their 50th year of service to the surrounding counties as well. The school began under the sponsorship of the Searcy Junior Auxiliary with seven special education students attending on a half-day basis. At that time, school was held in a converted army barracks on land leased from Searcy Public Schools.
Today, the Sunshine services students from Searcy, Augusta, Pangburn, Kensett, Des Arc, Pleasant Plains, McRae, Beebe, Judsonia, Hazen, Bradford, Bald Knob and McCrory. It has since moved into a new, up-to-date and spacious facility with 12 classrooms, a large multi-purpose room, several therapy rooms, an office and conference room.
