04 Dec 2013 Several holiday events rescheduled in Morrilton
Winter weather in the 501 last week forced rescheduling of several holiday events in Morrilton. The annual Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Downtown Morrilton. This year’s parade theme is "The Sights and Sounds of Christmas."
Main Street Morrilton will host a tree lighting ceremony at the pocket park after the parade. Beans and cornbread, hot chocolate and cider, and Christmas caroling will be provided by First Assembly of God Church.
UACCM’s Night of Luminaries has also been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10, directly following the Morrilton Christmas Parade. Families are invited to visit with Santa indoors at The Plaza UACCM where he will give gifts to all children attending. There will be plenty of hot chocolate, cider and cookies, and it’s all free!
All parade entries must be lighted and decorated, according to the theme, and must be suitable for children of all ages. Music on floats and with other entries is encouraged. For judging purposes, there are three categories of floats: commercial and civic; group, church and nonprofit; and school and education. Automobiles, bicycles, horses, and marching bands are also encouraged to enter.
Line-up for the parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Green Bay Packaging’s Fiber Resource Division parking lot on Broadway. Entries must arrive no later than 5 p.m. when the judging begins. There will be a first place and runner-up awards given for each category. There is no entry fee.
Forms are available at the Chamber office. For more information on the parade, contact the Chamber at 501.354.2393 or [email protected].
