Second quarter pushes Lady Mustangs to win

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Playing an American Midwest Conference opponent on Dec. 13 for the first time this season, Central Baptist College women’s basketball was inside the Mabee Sports Complex for a tilt with the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University. CBC (6-4, 1-4 AMC) used a 32-point second quarter to lead 45-20 at halftime and cruised to a 78-51 win over HLGU (2-10, 0-5 AMC).

Four Mustangs finished in double figures scoring, led by a career-high 21 from Caroline Citty. CBC won the game from three, where they had a 9-2 advantage, the free throw line, where they were 15-16 compared to 9-14 and in turnovers, committing just 10 while forcing 25.

CBC led 13-12 after the first quarter and really put things together just before halftime. Citty and Olivia Lambrigtsen both had 10 in the quarter while Lydia York chipped in with five, Maele Van Houtert scored three and Emma Bates and Kristan Hargrove both had a bucket each. CBC won the quarter 32-8 with 52 percent shooting from the field, 60 percent from deep and 7-8 at the free throw line.

  • The Lady Mustangs improved to 12-6 all-time against HLGU and have won nine straight
  • CBC is now 5-1 this season when leading at halftime 
  • Citty not only led the team in scoring with 21, but also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds
