21 Aug 2023 Searcy in need of blood donors

The Unity Health Blood Drive Blitz will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the Hubach Room at Unity Health in Searcy (White County).

“After months of post-pandemic struggles, our red blood cell supply is drifting into failure,” said Mandi Clark, account consultant for Our Blood Institute. “This difficulty has been worsening despite our continuing, exhausting efforts. Sadly, our region has finally reached a critical breaking point. Without a powerful response…, we are likely to see consequences such as postponed elective surgeries, delayed transfusions and the dividing of blood bags to stretch stock.”

Clark is asking readers to spread the word and encourage as many donors as possible to schedule an appointment. As a fun and exciting way to encourage more people to donate, each successful donor will be entered to win one of two grand prize “Getting Piggy With It” packages. Each package includes two tickets to the Sept. 2 Razorback game in Little Rock, one-night stay at the Delta Hotel for two, a YETI cooler,and other swag. Plus, all donors will receive a football themed T-shirt and a ticket to Magic Springs. 

“Currently there are 35 appointments, and we really need at least 45-50 more donors to ensure we get our goal of 65 successful donors,” Clark said. Although donors cannot make an appointment online on the day of the blood drive, walk-ins are welcome.
