Searcy announces plans for Get Down Downtown festival

Festival organizer Main Street Searcy, stage sponsor First Security Bank and music sponsor White River Flooring have announced that Nashville recording band Little Texas will be the Saturday night headline act for Get Down Downtown on Saturday, September 30.

The annual downtown Searcy festival has welcomed nationally known recording artists and local musicians for several years. Main Street Searcy and event volunteers are making preparations to welcome approximately 25,000 visitors into the downtown area for the 10th annual event that has become known for featuring live music, performances, merchandise vendors and concessions.

The two-day festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, with local musicians Jason Coleman and Brent Blakely on the First Security Bank Stage and vendors lining the downtown streets.

Activities resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, with music all day and vendor activities in the downtown area; the Unity Health Kid Zone will be operational in Spring Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities such as stage performances, inflatables, carnival games, rides and face painting will be offered for children of all ages.

Saturday evening will be a continuation of downtown activities, including Arkansas’s own blues band Charlotte Taylor and Gypsy Rain. The band will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. before Little Texas takes the stage at 8 p.m.

As part of the young country movement of the early 1990s, Little Texas was responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused the look and attitude of modern rock music with traditional country themes and styles, bringing a much appreciated bolt of life into the genre. For their efforts, country fans the world over richly rewarded the band by buying more than 7 million albums; critics showered them with three Grammy nominations plus honors from both the Academy of Country Music for Vocal Group Of The Year and the Country Music Association for Album of The Year.

Their first radio release in 1991, “Some Guys Have All The Love,” became a Top-10 hit, as did their next single, “First Time For Everything.” After the album First Time For Everything was released, five singles reached the top of the charts. Their second album, Big Time, truly was the big time for Little Texas.

The music the band has generated over the years is timeless, and has been featured on hundreds of television programs and sporting events, including Good Morning America, American Idol, Don’t Forget The Words, America’s Got Talent and HBO’s "True Blood." "God Blessed Texas" has been the theme music for the Texas Ford Dealers commercials since 1998.
