07 Dec 2016 Run Like You’ve Been Stung 5K planned Sunday in Maumelle
The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce will present the Second Annual Run Like You’ve Been Stung Maumelle 5K on Sunday, Dec. 11, at Maumelle High School.
This event was created by students in the National Junior Honor Society at Maumelle Middle School in 2015. Now in its second year, those students have moved to Maumelle High School and are continuing the program by expanding their involvement to include other ninth grade students. In addition, they are mentoring to the students that are in National Junior Honor Society at the middle school this year. Facilitated through the Maumelle chamber educational committee, this 5K is more than just a race.
Groups of business leaders have taken this opportunity to mentor to these young trailblazers on the importance of marketing, sales, business and teamwork to create this great race.
Working side by side with students, this fun run event is designed to promote community wellness and pride.
The 5K course begins and ends at the Maumelle High School Stadium and winds through the Maumelle Industrial Park.
Advance registration is $25 for runners, $15 for students, $25 for virtual runners, or $35 the day of the race. Participants will have an opportunity to pick up race packets from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 115 Audubon Drive, Suite 14 in the Town Centre Shopping Center.
On the day of the race, registration will begin at noon at the Maumelle High School Stadium. The race will kick off at 2 p.m.
After the race, runners and race supporters will have a chance to enjoy a spirited tailgate experience in front of the Maumelle High School Football Stadium. Race sponsors will be handing out free promotional items, food and drinks.
The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Committee had dedicated its time and efforts to help Maumelle students by providing an opportunity for professional development, to share community connections and to establish partnership programs in Maumelle. The committee works closely with local schools to provide a program where students and business leaders can work toward the future. In addition, the committee oversees and creates events to fund the chamber’s scholarship program for local students. In 2015, the committee awarded two $500 scholarships.
