06 Aug 2016 ROSE BUD: Young Ramblers ready to strike winning season
Conference: 2-3A
Coach: Michael Perez
’15 Record: 2-8
Low numbers mixed with injuries made for a difficult season for the Rose Bud Ramblers. The numbers got so low that Rose Bud was forced to forfeit in Week 8.
“Last season was a difficult one due to the amount of injuries,” said Michael Perez, who takes over as head coach this year. “However, there were bright spots including winning our last game of the year and ending the season on a positive note.”
Under Perez, who previously served as defensive coordinator, the Ramblers will breathe new life into their offense by installing the Spread. Sophomore Austin Herring projects to take over at quarterback. Senior Trenton Reed — a 501 Football Team honoree — returns at running back. Reed was the Ramblers’ second-leading rusher in 2015 with 550 yards. Sophomore Dalton Hall joins Reed in the backfield. Receivers include seniors Bridge Biniakewitz, Brody Frizzle, Juan Chaves; juniors Kody Graham and Eli Weatherly; and sophomores Levi Balentine and Michael Clark. Senior Ryan Schaumleffel leads as a three-year starter on the offensive line. Other linemen include senior Cole Rogers; juniors Seth Fulton and Grant Moody; and sophomores Jerimiah Watson, James Dieckman and Darrell Barber.
Schaumleffel, Moody, Watson, junior Edgar Mayorga and senior Tyler McCready make up the defensive line. Chavez led the Ramblers in tackles last season at linebacker. Junior Gaige Baskins, Fulton, Herring, junior Kirkland Bomar, Rogers, sophomore Scott Baker and sophomore Austin Larkins fill out the linebacker rotation. Senior Johnathan Barber, Hall, Balentine, Graham, Biniakewitz and sophomore Tim Sanders will all see time in the secondary.
