Robert and Glenda Schmidt named honorary chairmen for annual Festival of Chairs

The Children’s Advocacy Alliance recently named Robert and Glenda Schmidt as its honorary chairs for the 16th Annual Festival of Chairs.

“Robert and Glenda have always supported our organization. They were here when we were founded as CASA in 2000, and they are still supporting us 17 years later as we have grown to an expanded organization with new programs.” said Tess Fletcher, executive director of the Children’s Advocacy Alliance.

In response to the announcement Robert said, “It’s an honor to be named honorary chair; it’s something that Glenda and I appreciate.”

“The amount of support we have from the Schmidts has not only assisted our agency but the advancement of ending child abuse as a whole.” said Autumn Kissire, development doordinator of the Children’s Advocacy Alliance.

The Festival of Chairs will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the UCA HPER Center. The event benefits the Children’s Advocacy Alliance, a partnership between the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the 20th Judicial District and the Central Arkansas Children’s Advocacy Center.

The Festival of Chairs’ signature feature is the beautifully repurposed chairs that go up for auction.

Talented local artists take broken and damaged chairs and with a lot of love and creativity bring them back to life. The chairs are symbolic of the children and families the Children’s Advocacy Alliance serves on a daily basis.

These chairs, along with other works of art and hundreds of other unique and exciting items, are featured in live and silent auctions. The chairs will be on display at United Way in Downtown Conway or at Pam McDowell Properties prior to the event.

“Sponsorship opportunities are still available and those wishing to have a reserved table are encouraged to become a gold sponsor,” said Leia Smith, Festival of Chairs committee member. Event ticket prices are $50 per person in advance and $60 at the door.
