R.V. Powell Family makes donation to ASU-Beebe

The family of R.V. Powell Sr. recently donated $20,000 to the State Hall Renovation Project at Arkansas State University-Beebe.

The donation was made specifically to renovate the Financial Aid Suite, which will be named in honor of R.V. Powell Sr.

The State Hall Building was built by the National Youth Administration and Beebe Junior Agricultural College and was dedicated in 1938.

The State Hall Building is a landmark and the second oldest building on campus.

Over the years, the building was repurposed as the institution grew from 38 students in 1929 to more than 4,000 students today.

Before 1980, many students attended classes in the State Hall Building, which formerly housed faculty and administrative offices and later a gymnasium for athletics and physical education. The building now serves as administrative and support services for the university.

“We are very appreciative to our donors for their support with this major renovation project,” said Interim ASU-Beebe Chancellor Roger Moore. “It is our objective to maintain the historic feel of State Hall while modernizing the work spaces.”
