Thirteen teams and five individuals participated in February during the annual Area 17 Polar Plunge at Woolly Hollow State Park near Greenbrier.

The event included a dessert auction, a costume contest and a parade of participants.

The event raised about $8,800 for Special Olympics. Area 17 represents Faulkner, Perry, Pope and Van Buren counties.

The air temperature was 39 degrees and the water was 41 degrees.
