18 May 2022 Player a finalist for national award
SEARCY — Harding softball player Leigha Harris is one of eight finalists for the Schutt Sports / National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Freshman of the Year award. One player from the eight regions received a finalist and Harris represents the central region. The winner will be announced on May 26 at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Banquet.
Leigha Harris, from Duncan, Oklahoma, is the Great American Conference Freshman of the Year. Harris led the Lady Bisons with a .395 batting average. She also earned first team All-GAC honors. She led the team in hits with 70 and RBIs with 55. Harris had seven games with three or more hits and had 19 games with multiple hits this season.
The award is voted on by the NFCA Division II All-American/Coaching Staff of the Year committee and was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding athletic achievement among freshmen softball student-athletes throughout Division II.
