31 Oct 2016 Pioneer Village plans Fall Fest
Looking for a fun, family oriented event to celebrate the fall season? Pioneer Village Fall Fest, in Searcy, has just what you are looking for.
Fall Fest is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1200 Higginson Street.
The Village, a part of the White County Historical Society, contains buildings from around White County that date back to the late 1800s. Also included in the Village are farm equipment, tools and other items of interest that represent life in a previous time.
This annual event is celebrated the first weekend in November and is a fun activity for the entire family. There is truly something for everyone regardless of age. Volunteers in period costumes, the Friends of Pioneer Village, will be on hand to tell you about the buildings as well as answer questions. Pioneer demonstrators will show how things were "done then."
Music, throughout the event, will be provided by local musicians. In addition to food, a bake sale, kettle corn, fried pies and other refreshments, there will be pioneer games for children, farm animals, line dancing, clogging, and square dancing. The square dancers will even give you a quick lesson so you can join in the fun.
Toy trains will be running in the Garner Depot, currently undergoing renovation. The depot is the oldest still standing and used depot in Arkansas. The trains are provided by Arkansas Traveler Hobbies of Bald Knob.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Dandridge McRae, Camp # 397, Searcy, will camp on the grounds during the weekend of the Fall Fest. You can walk through their camp to visit with the soldiers and see how life would have been for a soldier on the move. They will even be firing their cannon during the event!
Saturday only, magic shows will be performed every hour.
Vendors will also be present, selling everything from soaps, bread, jewelry, wooden items, handmade items and more.
Admission and parking are free. Donations to the Village are accepted. All proceeds support maintenance and improvements of the Village.
Parking is directed by Boy Scout Troop 345, Searcy, and Troop 157, Bald Knob.
