This extraordinary investment strengthens the university’s ability to advance its mission of educating academically accomplished students who are grounded as advocates for social justice and determined to change the world for the better.

“This gift is a resounding vote of confidence in our mission and our momentum,” said Dr. Maurice D. Gipson, president and CEO of PSU. “It positions us to invest boldly in student success, facilities enhancement, and programs that prepare the next generation of Philander Smith leaders. We are profoundly grateful for this transformational support, which allows us to move Philander First with renewed purpose and vision.”

The unrestricted nature of the gift allows the university’s leaders and the Board of Trustees to allocate funds strategically in support of institutional priorities, including scholarships, academic innovation, infrastructure and long-term financial sustainability.

Dr. Tionna Jenkinschair of the PSU Board of Trustees and a 2001 alumna, said the gift underscores the institution’s enduring value and promise. “This moment is deeply personal as a Philander Smith graduate,” she said. “Ms. Scott’s generosity helps ensure that the university continues to thrive and expand its impact for generations to come.”

With a commitment to Moving Philander First, the university continues to lay a foundation for the future — advancing excellence, equity and opportunity for today and beyond.
