Perry County Health Unit staff provides meal for band students

PERRYVILLE — Recently the Perry County Health Unit staff and nurses partnered with county officials and served supper to the Perryville High School Band and their directors before they performed at the football game.

“We had the complete honor of serving dinner to these talented young students before they went off to support their Mustangs and perform on a hot September night,” said Tammy Driggers, LHU Administrator/Clinic Coordinator for Perry County. “Not only did they enjoy spaghetti and salad but were also able to fellowship and become acquainted with local officials and health services.”

The food was prepared by nursing staff members Pam Curtis and Crystal Thornberry, and dessert was provided by Harp’s in Perryville. County Judge Larry Blackmon was present and visited with the students. The idea to serve them was the brainchild of Driggers who encourages others in service positions, churches or businesses to serve band students who are often overlooked, according to Driggers.

“In a time where the generation gap seems to be separating us exponentially, this is one way to help build bridges from one age to another,” she said. “What a joy it is to listen to the conversation and laughter of young people. When I came to Perryville two years ago, I had visions of the wonderful opportunities available at our building to host and serve this community not only in physical health, but also emotionally and spiritually. The staff here has supported and joined forces with glad hearts in every new idea.

“If you own a business or are part of a group of people in Perry County that values our youth, please reach out to the Band Boosters of Perryville, Bigelow Band or other youth activities in Perry County and ask how you can serve,” Driggers said. “Plan a meal, have an ice cream night or they love popsicles. There are so many ways to say, ‘We see you, good job.’”
