North Little Rock to remember Pearl Harbor’s 83rd anniversary

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — State and local dignitaries will commemorate 83 years since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor at 11:58 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, 120 Riverfront Park Drive, North Little Rock. If inclement weather occurs, the alternate location is River House located at 120 S. Olive (between the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum and Downtown Riverside RV Park.)

“We hope you will take time to thank a veteran this historic week, step into their shoes for a day, and educate your family about this pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” said Telina Mahan of the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum.

North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick, CDR Sterling D. “Rooster” Claypoole, USNR and Dr. Joe Manning ETC (SS) USN Ret will take part in the ceremony. Dec. 7, marks 83 years since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Arkansas is one of two locations—the other being Honolulu, Hawaii—with ships present at both the beginning and end of World War II. Per the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, of the millions who served, there are 119,550 veterans of the Second World War alive today. Around 1,144 World War II veterans live in Arkansas.
