09 Jun 2025 North Little Rock opens Crystal Bluff climbing area
The City of North Little Rock, in partnership with the Arkansas Climbers Coalition (ARCC), is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Crystal Bluff climbing area at Big Rock Quarry Park.

The climbing area is the result of a two-year collaborative effort between the city and ARCC to transform the historic Big Rock Quarry into a premier urban climbing destination. The Crystal Bluff area’s initial phase features over 30 bolted sport-climbing routes, some reaching heights of up to 80 feet, including several multi-pitch climbs. The development was made possible entirely through volunteer labor and community donations, showcasing the dedication and passion of local climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Sport climbing areas like this are incredibly rare in urban settings — not only in Arkansas, but across the country. Crystal Bluff brings something truly special to the community — access to real rock climbing in the heart of the city. More than just a climbing destination, it represents expanded access, new opportunities, and a shared vision for what inclusive, community-centered recreation can be.
Nestled along the scenic Arkansas River Trail, Big Rock Quarry Park also offers a pump track, skate park, and trails for mountain biking and hiking, making it a comprehensive outdoor recreation area. For more information, email ARCC at info@arkansasclimbers.org or visit arkansasclimbers.org.
