No. 15 Harding falls 7-0 at Arkansas-Monticello

SEARCY — The 15th-ranked Harding baseball team fell to Arkansas-Monticello 7-0 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Harding’s offense was unable to get going, managing just six hits, grounding into three double plays and leaving eight runners stranded. Nathan BowieLogan LaceyCollin HelmsCoulton DoyleCooper Newsom, and Ty Kirkbride each recorded a hit for the Bisons. Doyle’s hit was his fourth double of the season.

Harding’s best scoring chance came in the second inning. Doyle doubled to lead off and Newsom moved him to third with a single. After a strikeout, Kirkbride flew out to left and Doyle was thrown out at home attempting to score. Arkansas-Monticello then scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-0 lead at that point.

Starter Keaton Baird (2-1) gave up five runs in four innings and took the loss. Kyle Lane surrendered two runs in the fifth out of the bullpen, but reliever Josiah Binford posted two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Griffin Meeker pitched a perfect eighth inning.

The Bisons dropped to 21-5 overall and will look to bounce back in a three-game Great American Conference series against Southeastern Oklahoma, beginning Friday at 1 p.m. in Durant, Oklahoma. Arkansas-Monticello is now 15-11.
