Merry Christmas from the River City Men’s Chorus conductor

The artistic director and conductor of Little Rock’s River City Men’s Chorus graciously invited 501 LIFE inside his home to enjoy his gorgeous, shining Christmas decorations. David Glaze and his beloved pup, Midas, welcome friends and CARTI volunteers during the holiday season.

“I have always truly loved the holiday season and all the decorations that go along with that time of year,” he said. “However, because October, November and December are the busiest months of the year for me (rehearsals, rehearsals, rehearsals), my own personal decorating at home has usually been little more than a Christmas tree and a few other knick-knacks around the house.”

But each year, he would change the color palettes and use treasured family heirloom ornaments and buy a few items to complete the chosen color scheme.

At the height of his decorating efforts, in 2021, he cleared out the attic and used all the decorations he had accumulated.

That required calling on his dear friend Judy Davis, a freelance designer, to help decorate eight beautiful trees in his home.

This year, the featured tree beside the fireplace is a 9-foot tree, gleaming in all red and different shades of green (lime, emerald, etc.).

The double garland on the mantle matches the tree. Besides all the trees, he also placed several nativity sets around the house.

A self-taught artist, Glaze has created abstract paintings in the past to match the colors he had chosen for his trees.

He encourages others not to feel as though they have to buy all new things each year.

“The point is to use the things that you have and the things that you love and the things that bring good memories to mind,” he said. “If you need to freshen up with a few things, sprigs here and there, do that, but use what you have.”

He promises the memories will be worth it.
