16 Apr 2014 Marathon runner Steve Hughes to speak at running club meeting
Little Rock Roadrunners Club will have its monthly meeting on Monday, April 21, at U.S. Pizza in Hillcrest, 2710 Kavanaugh Blvd. The meeting takes place in the upstairs party room at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Steve Hughes will speak about battling osteoarthritis while running, which rendered him inactive athletically from 31-56 years old. Since his 60th birthday, he has completed more than 250 marathons and ultras.
In December 2010, Steve became the 61st runner and the first Arkansan to ever complete a marathon or longer in all 50 states at least twice. In September 2012, Steve completed his third circuit of marathons or longer around the 50 states.
On December 28, 2012, he became only the seventh athlete in the world to ever complete at least 100 races of 26.2 miles or longer in one calendar year. Numbers 99 and 100 for the year were completed while wearing a walking boot to minimize foot and ankle pain. At the Sedona Marathon on Feb. 1, Steve achieved his fourth completion of a marathon or longer in all 50 states.
Little Rock Roadrunners Club meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend to learn about the latest in the local running community and to be updated on club events and plans. Meetings provide a social setting to engage with old friends and make new connections.
