14 Nov 2016 Lemley named Miss UACCM
Mikayla Lemley of Morrilton was crowned Miss UACCM 2016 after competing in the 10th Annual UACCM Pageant on Nov. 5 in the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s Fine Arts Auditorium.
Lemley, 18, is a daughter of Scott and Kim Lemley of Morrilton, and is a freshman at UACCM. She is pursuing an associate of arts degree in general education. After completing the necessary courses, Lemley plans to transfer to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock to become a registered nurse, specializing in neonatal care. While at Morrilton High School, she was selected as Most Outstanding in the high school band, as well as Vocational Student of the Week. Lemley was an active member of the National Beta Club throughout junior high and high school.
“By being crowned Miss UACCM, I have the opportunity to help out more [at UACCM] and even go to high schools to talk to students about how important it is to go to college to pursue a career and all of the different opportunities students have to earn scholarships,” Lemley said “I have been competing in the UACCM Pageant for about eight years now, and I’m so excited to finally be Miss UACCM.”
Lemley was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the UACCM Chancellor’s Office, a product basket courtesy of Hairport of Morrilton and a tanning package courtesy of Headhunters Beauty Salon in Morrilton. The first alternate in the Miss UACCM competition was given a $500 scholarship, and the second through fourth alternates received hair care products courtesy of Debbie’s Salon in Morrilton.
Hosted by UACCM’s SkillsUSA chapter, the pageant was open to current UACCM students and girls between the ages of birth and 17 years. Apart from seven additional categories, those who competed for the title of Miss UACCM were judged on beauty, professionalism, speech presentation and interview skills.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to help run the UACCM Pageant to help advance SkillsUSA students, provide girls of all ages a venue to compete in something they all are passionate about, and continue such a positive event for the community,” said Jayson Millheim, UACCM’s SkillsUSA chapter advisor. “It was nerve racking and fun to help put on an event that showcased our school, community, local businesses and all of the wonderful contestants. I look forward to this event next year and hopefully many years to come.”
