12 Aug 2012 LAKE HAMILTON: Wolves eye another conference title and more
Classification: 7A/6A South
Coach: Jerry Clay
Last Season: 12-2 (7-0)
The Lake Hamilton Wolves continued their winning legacy in 2011, going a perfect 7-0 in conference play. The Wolves won at El Dorado in week eight, 31-23, but ended up losing to the Wildcats in a rematch in the state championship game.
Lake Hamilton is intent on continuing its winning ways in the newly formed 7A/6A South and plan to follow the lead of its big boys up front.
“On offense, I think we will be a power running team,” Coach Jerry Clay said. “Our linemen are our main strength, and we have some great receivers too, so we can be at balance there.”
Leading the charge on the offensive line is 501 Football Team honoree senior Trey Martin (6-3, 280). The all-state returner is a force at tackle.
Martin is joined by four other seniors on the line: Jerry Chancelor (5-9, 250), Thomas Dutton (5-10, 200), Gavin De Los Santos (6-3, 290) and Zach Sandlin (6-0, 210).
“With defense, our front seven would be our strength,” Clay said.
Junior Chris Eastburn (6-0, 215) starts at linebacker after putting up an all-conference performance last season. Senior Cody Smith (5-11, 170) is an all-state defensive back that also sees time at receiver.
“Our conference is going to be tough because it’s very competitive,” Clay said. “As defending conference champs, we have a title to keep. It’ll be tough, though, because three out of four of our playoff games were teams from our conference: El Dorado, Pine Bluff and Texarkana. Benton and Sheridan have good programs as well, plus Bryant will be joining.”
