Lady Bisons sweep GAC Defensive Soccer honors

RUSSELLVILLE — The Great American Conference (GAC) announced its weekly soccer honors, with two Harding University Lady Bisons sweeping the defensive awards for the fourth week of the season.

Sophomore defender Skylar Henley was named the GAC Defensive Player of the Week, and junior Maysa Willis earned GAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors.

Skylar Henley, Defensive Player of the Week

Henley, a native of Bedford, Texas, anchored the Harding backline in a crucial 1-0 home victory against East Central. Playing the entire 90 minutes, she led a defense that surrendered a season-low three shots, helping the team secure its second shutout of the season. The win extended the Lady Bisons’ unbeaten streak against East Central to five games.

Maysa Willis, Goalkeeper of the Week

Willis, who hails from Bentonville, Arkansas, registered her first shutout of the season and the eighth of her career in the same 1-0 victory over East Central to open the conference schedule. This marks her third shutout in five career games against the Tigers. Her performance helped lower her goals-against average to 1.80.
