24 Mar 2013 Kids Run Arkansas set March 28
Thursday, March 28, is the registration deadline for Kids Run Arkansas, a 1-mile and 3-mile run/walk for kids of all ages.
The event, which is based out of the Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center, is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
Kids Run will be held in Conway at Laurel Park at 6 p.m. Friday, April 19. Similar Kids Run events will be held in the cities of Jonesboro and Clarksville later in the year.
“We are excited that it promotes physical fitness for kids of all ages,” said Amy Routt, who founded the event. Amy is a group exercise coordinator at the Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center. She noted that kids are one of the fastest growing obese populations and events such as Kids Run help counteract this trend by getting children outside and moving.
The cost of Kids Run Arkansas® is $8 per child and includes an event T-shirt, post-race goody bag and refreshments. The area school with the highest percentage of children registering for Kids Run will be awarded $300 to use for its physical education program. Last year, 23 different schools in the Conway area participated in Kids Run Arkansas.
Event sponsors include the Arkansas Governor’s Council on Fitness, Coney’s Garage Doors, Angela Conrad Inc., Smoothie King, FAST Fitness, DP Surfing, Roe Henderson Shelter Insurance, Sonshine Academy, Jay Bernard State Farm and Pam McDowell Properties.
A registration form is available by calling the Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center or visiting conwayregional.org/ClassesPrograms.
