11 Aug 2013 HS LAKESIDE: Experience key for Rams in 2013
Conference: 5A South
Coach: Jared McBride
’12 Record: 5-5 (4-3)
Hot Springs Lakeside’s season ended abruptly in 2012, with a 54-14 first-round playoff loss to Class 5A runner-up Batesville. The Rams return with more focus and more experience in 2013 and look to turn heads in the 5A South conference.
Leading the offense will be Garrett Carson. One of six returning offensive starters, the senior quarter- back and 501 Football Team nominee started every game in 2012 and paced the Rams for more than 2,000 yards through the air.
“Garrett is a true leader and competitor and very athletic,” Coach Jared McBride said. “I expect him to lead us to a championship, and he will be a Divi- sion I quarterback.”
Carson’s weapons at receiver include junior Clint Smedley and senior Spencer Hecke. Three linemen return, including senior Kreylon Gulley, and should help create more opportunities for the offense.
Defensively, eight starters return, including a strong linebacker core led by senior Cameron Craig. The unit will look to improve on its 359 points allowed in 2012.
