29 Jan 2014 Hendrix team plans fundraiser
The Hendrix College women’s basketball team will host its annual Play 4Kay basketball game at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, with proceeds going toward the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is an organization created in 2007 by the late Kay Yow, who fought breast cancer for 22 years before passing away in 2009. Yow was head coach of the North Carolina State University women’s basketball team for 34 years, leading the Wolfpack to 20 NCAA tournament appearances.
Yow also became the first women’s coach to win two Olympic gold medals and is in 11 Halls of Fame.
Throughout February, the Play 4Kay initiative sees universities, colleges, high schools and organizations nationwide raise awareness for breast cancer, as well as money for research. The charity has raised more than $2.6 million since 2007.
The Lady Warriors will play Southern Athletic Association conference opponent Millsaps College with the game to be held at the Hendrix College Wellness and Athletics Center in Conway.
