Hendrix Softball drops doubleheader to Lyon

CONWAY — Hendrix continued its losing skid with a pair of losses to in-state foe Lyon on Monday night at Warrior Softball Field.

Game 1 (L, 4-3)

After Lyon opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first, Hendrix responded with a three-spot in the home half of the inning. Kaycee Schoen knocked a bases-loaded single to left center to score Betty Wolfe and Rylee HarrisLayton Rogers then added on with an infield single to score Kendyl Patton

The Warriors outhit Lyon 12-9 over the course of the contest but failed to plate a run after the first. The Scots tied the game in the sixth inning off a lead-off home run and then a bases-loaded wild pitch, and then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Tori Maldonado and Alyssa Sornia both reached on one-out singles to put the tying run on second, but the Warriors failed to bring the tying run home as the side was eventually retired.

Game 2 (L, 9-6)

Hendrix opened the scoring in Game 2 with a Tori Maldonado RBI single to score Rylee Harris. Lyon then scored six runs across the third and fourth innings before Julia Hayes put the Warriors back on the board by touching home on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the fourth.

Sornia knocked in Kaycee Schoen in the fifth with an RBI single. With two gone in the inning and the bases loaded, Betty Wolfe singled to score Sadie Lewis, and a series of calamitous errors in the infield off the relay allowed Emmaline Trosclair and Hayes to score on the play and tie the game at 6-6. Wolfe was left stranded at third to end the inning.

The Warriors went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings to send the game into extras. Lyon took the lead on a one-out single, and then did some two-out damage with a two-RBI single to take a 9-6 lead. Hendrix was unable to manufacture any base runners in the home half of the inning besides the runner placed at second as they went down in order to end the game.
