10 Dec 2014 Hendrix quarterback named Offensive Player of the Year
The SAA recently announced the 2014 Football All-Conference award winners and, after exclusive voting conducted by the league’s head coaches, Hendrix quarterback Seth Peters won Offensive Player of the Year.
Centre’s defensive end Devon Freeman was named Defensive Player of the Year. Linebacker Andrew Busby of Centre captured Newcomer of the Year and kicker Steve Crenshaw of Hendrix earned Special Teams Player of the Year.
The 2014 SAA Football Coach of the Year honor was bestowed to Centre’s Andy Frye after piloting the Colonels to a perfect 10-0 regular season.
Peters, a sophomore quarterback from Greenbrier, led Hendrix to a winning record in 2014 by being the single most dominant offensive force in the league. Peters not only led the SAA in completion percentage at 73.1 percent but that number is also tops in the nation among all three NCAA divisions.
Peters led the league in nearly every major offensive statistical category including completions, total offense and yard per game. Despite playing the second half of the season with a torn MCL, Peters still shined, including leading the Warriors to a conference record 618 yards versus Westminster that included a single-game record of 19 consecutive completions.
A sophomore kicker from Texarkana, Texas, Crenshaw shattered the SAA record for both field goals made (10) and total points by a kicker (73) on his way to collecting the Special Teams Player of the Year honor in 2014. Despite leading the league in attempts, Crenshaw still held the highest success rate in the SAA at 80 percent. Possessing a strong leg, Crenshaw also proved to be a weapon on special teams where he could kick either long or short to pin teams behind the 20 to start their drives.
