Harding Men’s Soccer battles to 2-2 draw

SEARCY – The Harding Bison men’s soccer team played to a thrilling 2-2 tie against Mississippi College on Tuesday at Stevens Soccer Field in Searcy. Despite being outshot 22-9, the Bisons showed resilience and determination to secure a hard-fought draw.

Mississippi College struck first, scoring in the ninth minute, and maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime. However, Harding came alive in the second half, with senior transfer Lesego Maloma netting his first career goal as a Bison in the 56th minute, assisted by Brandon Southard’s first career assist.

Junior transfer Cian Halpin gave Harding a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, capitalizing on a Mississippi College giveaway. But the Choctaws quickly responded, tying the game 2-2 with a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Harding goalkeeper Inigo Chavarria made seven crucial saves to keep the Bisons in the game. Despite the tie, Harding showed improvement in the second half, outshooting Mississippi College 7-6.

The Bisons now stand at 0-2-1 overall, with all three games coming against Gulf South Conference teams. They will look to build on this performance in their next game on Thursday, Sept. 19, at DBU in Dallas, Texas.
