Harding golfer awarded CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year

SEARCY — College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) named Harding golfer Sam Tandy as its NCAA Division II Men’s At-Large Academic All-American of the Year on July 10.

Award History

  • The At-Large category includes golf, lacrosse and other sports that do not have their own award.
  • Tandy is the second Harding student-athlete and the first male to earn a CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year award … the other was women’s track and field athlete Ewa Zaborowska in 2015.
  • Tandy earned First Team Academic All-America honors for the second straight year.
  • Harding men’s golf has three Academic All-America awards … the other was Mark Burk in 1991.

Tandy’s Academics

  • Tandy, the GAC Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year, graduated with a degree in finance, finishing with a 3.97 GPA.
  • This season, he became the lone Division II golfer named as a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award – an award given out to the outstanding Division I, II, III, or NAIA scholar-athlete of the year.
  • He earned his third Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honor.

Tandy’s Athletics

  • On the course, Taney won GAC Player of the Year, leading the Bisons to the national championship tournament for the second straight season, finishing 10th in the individual competition.

Tandy became a PING All-American the second straight year after placing on the First Team, won the NCAA Fall Central Region Preview and registered 11 top-10 finishes in 12 tournaments.
