16 Nov 2016 Go!bbler Turkey Trot planned
The Sixth Annual Go!bbler Turkey Trot is planned 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, in The Heights in Little Rock.
The event benefits the Arkansas Foodbank.
Participants will join hundreds of runners, walkers and holiday merrymakers for a little pre-turkey “trot” hosted by Go! Running of Little Rock.
“Out of all of the races and runs we do each year, the Go!bbler is the most meaningful,” said Gary Taylor, owner of Go! Running. “We get to donate close to 3,500 pounds of food to the Arkansas Foodbank, right at the time of year families needed it most! Did you know that 2,000 pounds of food makes 1,600 meals? And last year as a community we were able to give 10,000 meals!
“It’s great knowing that many of our neighbors will enjoy the holidays more because of this outstanding running community.”
This year, organizers are raising the stakes to help in the quest to support hunger. “The AR Foodbank will have a big truck at the run this year. We want to FILL THAT TRUCK! And we think our community is up for the challenge.”
The run will begin and end at Go! Running at 1819 N Grant St. There are group options of 3 miles, 4 miles and 6.5 miles that cover many aspects of running such as road, track, trail and other “surprises” along the way – essentially a tour of Hillcrest and The Heights! It is not a race, but a family group run, with no entry fee, no chips and no timing but a whole lot of fun.
To register, simply bring non-perishable food items or cash donations for the Arkansas Foodbank. Santa will be there to help collect the food.
Register at gorunning.com/gobbler for the free run. Those who register by Monday, Nov. 21, will be eligible TO WIN a Thanksgiving turkey (fresh, local farm raised) from Hillcrest Artisan Meats on Kavanaugh.
There will be a costume contest and commemorative Go!bbler shirts for sale. Pies from sous chef Amanda with the 1836 club and fresh Southern-style pecans from the Capital Hotel will be rewarded to winners of surprise categories.
Water, drinks and light refreshments from Old Mill Bakery and the Capital Hotel will be available after the run.
