15 Oct 2015 Funky Frugal: Couple makes projects their own
by Tanner Cangelosi
We have good friends in Hot Springs that grew up here and were high school sweethearts. Faith and Tony Hunt have hearts of gold and sincerely love those around them. Projects are constantly on their list of things to do, and they are quite good at them! I love getting a front row seat to what they are up to, and I wanted to share a few of their most recent projects.
Where did you and Tony meet?
We met at a high school game. We disagree on if it was basketball or football.
Have you both always been handy?
Tony worked at a cabinet shop from the time he was 18 until 22. He can build just about anything. He loves woodworking.
Where did the door idea come from?
I follow a bunch of talented folks on Instagram and glean their decor ideas. I showed Tony a picture and he said, “I can do that!”
Can you tell us in detail how you built and hung this door?
Tony took 1×6 white pine boards and built a panel, framing it with 2×6 white pine boards. He put a little trim around to make a more finished look. We found a mirror and hardware to hang the mirror at Lowes. He sprayed the door Dover White from Sherwin Williams. We bought the hanging hardware from eBay. We had to use a 1x on the wall due to the pre-drilled holes on the track not aligning with the studs. Tony put the board on the wall in the studs and track on the board for extra support. I found a very ornate door pull at Hobby Lobby that looks antique.
Where is this door located?
This is my closet door in my master bedroom, and it is a huge space saver. No more door clearance space issues in the bedroom!
Where did the idea for the bed come from?
I saw it on Shanty2Chic’s Instagram as well as Pinterest.
How did you accomplish this project of building the bed?
The Shanty2Chic website has step-by-step instructions and a materials list. They are amazing. Tony just modified the measurements for a queen instead of a king size bed.
Where did you find your decor for above the bed?
The decor above the bed was copied straight from Shanty2Chic as well. I hope they feel the saying that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
It is true because I copied them to a tee! Hooks and mirrors from good old Hobby Lobby. Just hung them up with some long screws.
How does Tony feel about Pinterest?
Tony likes Pinterest, but my ideas can follow faster than he gets done. He’s in the middle of a project and I have three to five waiting. He’s a good sport about it. I will have to slow down and hit the pause button during college football season.
