Freezin for a Reason Feb. 6

Faulkner County Circle of Friends will host the fourth annual Freezin for a Reason 5K/10K on Saturday, Feb. 6, to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

“We have had three successful events and this has become the largest fundraising event for Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Faulkner County, raising over $36,000,” said organizer Karil Greeson.

The event continues to be in memory of Charlotte and Stella Mulhearn, but the run is personal for Karil. “When I was the first annual race director of Freezin, I was simply a volunteer and friends of the Mulhearns. I had never needed the services offered at Arkansas Children’s. I became pregnant with twins during that first year of Freezin and ironically it was Arkansas Children’s Hospital that saved my daughter’s life seven months later. Never in a million years could I have predicted the very hospital I was raising money for would later have such a huge personal impact for me.”

Karil’s story can be read at freezin4areason.org.

The 5K/10K race will begin at 9 a.m. at Conway High School Fieldhouse. This year, there will also be a Lap for Life for families and their children to take one lap around the track to honor all those past and present patients of Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Children and strollers are welcome at all events.

There will also be free food and lots of free kids’ activities like bounce houses, face painting, games and more.

Registration for the 5K or Spirit Runner is $25, the 10K is $30 and the Lap for Life (adult) is $15. Kids registration is $10 for any event. Proceeds benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation. For additional information, visit freezinforareason.org.

First United Methodist Church Youth Ministries have organized a Pasta Party from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, to support the race event. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 13 and younger. Tickets may be purchased at the online registration site (freezinforareason.org).
