The Little Rock Parkview Patriots turned things around in coach William Hardiman’s second season, finishing 7-4 with a loss in the first round of the state playoffs at Texarkana, 40-21.

The Patriots started 2008 going undefeated in non-conference play, and Parkview felt even more confident despite a 6A-East loss at Jonesboro in Week 4, 47-46.

“The way we played at Jonesboro really proved to ourselves that we could play with anybody,” Hardiman said.

The Patriot offense will rely on senior Ben Anderson (6-2, 190). Anderson has started at quarterback for Parkview since he was a freshman.

“Anderson is our guy,” Hardiman said. “He’s learned the game, and he’s our leader.”

Seniors Chris Giles (5-10, 195) and Blake Vines (5-10, 175) provide “big game potential” at tailback and receiver, respectively.

Junior Michael Johnson (6-2, 200) returns to lead the defense at middle linebacker after leading the team in tackles in 2008.

“The key for us to have success again this year is to remain humble,” Hardiman said. “We can’t be over confident. Nothing is a given. We have to remember what got us to success last year and stay humble.”
