Stories can be told in many ways and through many forms of expression. Jeff Matthews, manager of video production and local programming at Conway Corp, feels fortunate he can create and share stories through video broadcasting for a living.

His team produces video content for the company that includes everything from internal videos to original programming on Channel 5 and Wampus Cat Sports. He is also the public address announcer for the University of Central Arkansas football and basketball home games and for the Arkansas Activities Association’s State Championship football games.

Matthews’ interest in broadcasting goes back to his childhood in Oklahoma, where everyone paid attention to the weather during storm season. “I was always interested in broadcasting,” he said. “I grew up in Oklahoma and loved watching the meteorologists there handle intense, live situations.”

He also listened to a lot of sports on the radio. “I also fell asleep just about every night listening to a game on the radio, which led to my desire to be in radio and sports broadcasting,” he said.

Matthews was born in Conway and lived in Oklahoma for 14 years during the 1970s and 1980s. However, he always considered Central Arkansas home. He and his wife, Kandi, live in Conway and volunteer at New Life Church. He also enjoys announcing events such as the Community Connections (CC) Rivals United Football League championship game. CC is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of children with special needs, along with their families.

Matthews is passionate about his job, and giving back to others is important to him. He hopes the skills he has learned in his career will help others in the future. “I was given a chance by several key people in my journey — and in each case, they saw in me potential and gave me opportunities to do what I do. I want to give others that same chance,” he said.

A Bible verse that inspires him is Galatians 6:9, which says not to become tired of doing what is good because at just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don’t give up.

Crystal Kemp, chief marketing officer at Conway Corp, said Matthews has brought many contributions to his department. “Under Jeff’s leadership, our video production and local programming continue to grow in quality, relevance and impact. He brings energy, innovation and a strong commitment to serving our community, and this recognition as ‘One to Watch’ is very well-deserved,” Kemp said.

Outside of work, Matthews loves to travel with his wife. “I inherited a love of maps and direction from both of my grandpas, and I’ve always loved discovering new places,” he said.

An average day for him starts early. “After 15 years in morning radio and now being a proud dog dad to two dogs who can’t tell time — my routine starts early,” he said.

In 2026, he hopes to continue finding unique ways to tell stories and connect Conway Corp to the community. Especially since the company will soon reach a significant milestone. “Our 100th year is on the horizon, and we have a great story to tell,” he said.
