FFB Rotary golf tourney Sept. 19; 20 selected to receive scholarships

The Fairfield Bay Rotary Club will host its scholarship golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Indian Hills Country Club.Registration is 8 to 9 a.m., with a 9:30 start. 

Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served at registration. Snacks are provided by David Byard. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, “barley pop” soft drinks and treats will be available to golfers by Little Red’s and service on the course by one of Rotary’s representatives.  

There is a raffle for door prizes which exceed $1,000. 

Each flight has awards for first and second place. Typically, there are three flights. Entry fee is $55 per person or $220 for a team. For a golf team application, please see the Indian Hills Golf pro or his assistants. 

In addition to the tourney, raffle tickets are $10 for three tickets and $5 for one ticket. The top prize is $500, second is $250, and five third place prizes are $100 each. The first golfer who hits a hole in one on two different greens (holes to be designated) wins $25,000.

The fundraiser includes golf hole sponsorships for $50 to commercial enterprises across north central Arkansas and by individual friends of Rotary. Gold sponsorships are $500 and include a team registration and a pennant at a location of the donor’s choosing.

High schools are invited to send a team to compete for a $1,000 scholarship. 

State Health Department guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 will be observed at the event.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The club received 60 applications and selected 20 to receive scholarships. 

Graduates are from South Side Bee Branch, Quitman, Shirley, Fox Rural School, Timbo, Mountain View, Clinton and Westside. A total of $15,000 will be awarded for $1,000 to students attending a four-year college and $500 for students at a technical or community college. 

For students desiring to renew this scholarship after their freshman year, a special trust fund has been established. Students must meet specific criteria and can re-apply up to three years.
