16 Jan 2014 Faulkner County Library to host Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration
The 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will take place at the Faulkner County Library on Monday, Jan. 20.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Faulkner County Libraries and the Piece of the Dream Martin Luther King Jr. Group. Group sponsors are Jeff and Jaqueline Moncrease and Quinn Beacham.
The celebration consists of a unity march from city hall in Downtown Conway to the library. Shuttles from the library to downtown will begin at 9 a.m. The march to the library begins at 10 a.m.
Library activities begin at 11 a.m. There will be a special performance by Tommy Terrific for young children, and the celebration will end with a complimentary lunch for the participants.
The library is open only for these special activities, and is not open for regular business on Monday. The library will re-open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The annual march is symbolic of the unified march to an educated future and is held each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in honor of the civil rights marches of the 1960s.
