Heifer International recently hosted its annual Feast in the Field event to benefit Heifer USA projects and celebrate smallholder farms in Arkansas.
Guests donned white attire for the farm-to-fork dinner with locally sourced foods, fundraising and entertainment by The GroanUps.
As the keynote speaker, Arkansas farmer Melanie Ward, board chair of Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative, told the crowd her farm has become profitable and sustainable thanks to support from Heifer.
Thanks to Heifer USA’s work in Arkansas, the average farming revenue increased by $9,000 for Foodshed Farm members and by $35,000 for Grass Roots farmers like Melanie between 2014 and 2015.
