20 Sep 2016 Family’s gift, caregivers recognized
The recent Unity Health Foundation Donor Celebration was a special time of remembrance and recognition.
During the event, Donnie Miller represented his family in sharing the story of his aunt, Linda Miller. Praising the care that she received while a patient at Unity Health, the family expressed its gratitude by making a gift to the Cancer Center of Excellence in her memory to honor those who cared for her.
“Few things in life are more life changing and uncertain than receiving a cancer diagnosis,” Miller said. “Upon hearing these words from her longtime family physician, Dr. C.E. Ransom, our aunt immediately began to research a plan of treatment to receive the best care possible to treat her specific illness.”
Throughout her journey, Ms. Miller received treatment from Dr. Cheryl Payne at CARTI and Dr. Ryan Koch at the Cancer Center of Excellence.
Miller noted that his aunt also received “excellent healthcare” from Unity Health – White County Medical Center.
“She was treated with the latest medical technology, as well as being shown respect, dignity and compassion from the nursing and medical staff,” Miller said. “Our family was very thankful and blessed to have such care and concern at a very difficult time in our lives.
“Through the Grateful Patient program, we want to show our appreciation to all of these very special people who are dedicated to serving every patient with these values.”
Cassandra Feltrop, executive director of the Unity Health Foundation, expressed appreciation on behalf of Unity for the family’s donation. “We would like to thank the Miller Family for their continued support of the Unity Health Foundation and for the legacy they are helping to leave for our community through their gift,” she said.
In recognition of the outstanding care shown the Miller Family, the team from Unity Health – White County Medical Center 3 South, led by Christy Gauvey, received the Unity Health Heartbeat Award. The award recognizes health care workers at Unity Heath for their high level of patient care.
Also, in recognition of the gift, Dr. Ryan Koch, Dr. Cheryl Payne and Dr. C.E. Ransom received the first ever Spirit of Unity Awards. The new award will be given to any associate who is honored with a gift from a grateful patient or family.
