20 Mar 2017 Falling off course
by Laurie Green
Have you ever found yourself off the track in life? Perhaps you have been in such a rut or a wrong routine for so long that you didn’t even realize you had taken the wrong route. You are just going and going and suddenly you look around and wonder, “How did I get here?”
You started out in one direction, but then something bad happens and you fall off course and feel lost. This is a bad place to be in life. You see, the devil has such a way of making you feel all alone. You feel like you’re the ONLY person who is going through this pain, and you have no one to talk to — no one who could understand how you feel. And, unfortunately, we often don’t talk to others for fear of being judged.
I have been in that place before. I didn’t want to talk. I didn’t want to go to church. I just wanted to sit and complain to God about my situation. So that’s exactly what I did. However, the more I cried out to God, the more I realized how I was finally able to “really talk” to Him. It wasn’t the “God is good, God is great” prayer, it was real and intense communication. The more time with God, the faster my heart and my hurts were healed. I soon realized at some point that my complaining had become conversation and my conversation had brought healing.
I realize in hindsight that I wasn’t investing well in my time with God. I had let myself get complacent, off guard and unprepared for the enemy’s attack. I wasn’t paying attention to the fork in the road that led me off course. The Bible is your map, filled with directions for the path ahead. If you’re not reading it, you can easily fall off course.
This is why I am so thankful for promises like Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God can ALWAYS make good from a bad situation, but we have to trust Him even when we can’t “see” the good at just that moment.
It’s also extremely important to get in our thick skulls that God loves us even in those moments we are completely off course and feel lost. His grace is freely available to us all.
YOU are not alone whatever you are going through. It’s time we stop worrying about what others may think and start believing what God says about you. We need to step up and be there for one another. We need to stand at those forks in the road and point in the right direction to help each other stay the course.
Today may be the day that you need to dust off that Bible, pull out that “map” for your life and get back on the path that God has designed for you.
