England: Lions eye deeper run in playoffs

Conference: 6-2A
Coach: Terry Farmer
’13 Record: 7-5 (4-3)

The England Lions won seven games in 2013, making it all the way to the second round of the playoffs. England’s first round win was a wild one — 66-64 over McCrory in four overtimes. The win was special for the program.

“We had a great season,” Coach Terry Farmer said. “I wish we could have gone farther in the playoffs, but it was our first playoff win in 27 years.”

Things are looking just as good for the Lions this fall as they return seven starters on each side of the ball. Expected starters include senior Tyrik Harris (wide receiver/defensive back), senior Monte Toney (tight end/defensive back), senior Tanner Clubbs (tight end/linebacker), sophomore Brayden Brazil (quarterback/defensive back), sophomore Brock Miller (lineman), sophomore B.J. Thompson (wide receiver/defensive back), junior Mario Zermeno (lineman), senior Justin Sinclair (lineman) and junior Xavier Iverson (athlete).

“I expect our team to compete, execute and play hard — leave everything on the field,” Farmer said. “The [6-2A] conference is tough, big and physical. I believe our speed will play a big factor. Our skill players are our strength.”
